20 Ways to help the environment

1. Purchase environment-friendly shopping bags from your local grocery store, and use them
2. Plant tree seeds in a place that doesn't have too many trees
3. Pick up trash and litter from where ever
4. Don't buy plastic water bottles, and just fill up a reusable water bottle
5. Turn off any lights that aren't being used
6. Take shorter showers, 5 minutes is plenty of time
7. Ditch electronics and go outside to play!
8. Have you ever wanted a small notebook?  Well, I recommend Poo Poo Paper.  It's 100% made of elephant poop, and it's scentless(It's gross, I know)!
9. Put in fuller loads of laundry so you know you're not wasting water
10. With gloves, search through local trash cans to find any cans or plastic bottles, and put them in the cans and plastic bottles recycling bin
11. Do you have unwanted papers that you CERTAINLY don't need?  Well, just recycle them
12. If you're the artsy type and you use color pencils, just buy Crayola colored pencils.  Look for the colored pencils that are made from reforested wood
13. Reduce pollution by carpooling, taking the local bus, or riding a bike
14. Instead of turning on the heat in the winter, wear a sweater
15. If you have a lot of errands, then combine them so you don't waste gas
16. Change your house's light bulbs with LED or CFL light bulbs
17. Buy an electric car
18. Rather than throwing your food in the trash can, compost instead
19. Use solar cookers/food dehydrator
20. Dry clothes on a hanging line instead of using a dryer

Pollution in the air and water

Cars, smoking, and factories are all good examples of things that cause a good amount of pollution in the air.  Pollution is a very bad thing, because it makes the air hard to breathe, and it even contaminates the water.  In China, it's very common that the people there have to wear masks since there is a lot of pollution from the factories there.  We need to cut down on pollution.  For example, there should be more electric cars selling, since it doesn't need gas.  It's not like everyone should have an electric car, but more people should have electric cars.  I feel the need that smoking should be illegal.  Millions of people die from smoking, and not just from smokers.  Not only that, there are so many smokers out in the world creating pollution, it's hurting the environment.  Factories have tubes that let out smoke into the air, which makes the air contaminated.  There are so many factories in the world, and we should fuel energy for the factories with substances that don't produce smoke in the air.  The water plays an enormous role in human survival, because without water, we would die.  It is very common that sometimes, smokers throw their cigarettes in a pond or a lake because they're too lazy to throw it in a trash can, or maybe they think it's funny.  That one cigarette pollutes the pond/lake, and that contaminates the water.  Fish and other animals in the ponds and lakes would be very much effected by the pollution in the water.  Just take the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, many animals died from that spill because they used the water to drink or to clean themselves.  Many organizations washed the affected animals that were covered in the oil.  After they were done washing these animals, they let them free.  This oil spill was an accident, but affected many innocent animals.  Also, there are factory wastes that get blended in with water.  These wastes can give fish disease, and if humans eat these toxic fish, we might die.  Factory wastes not only affect the fish and marine life, but it could also affect humans.  Not a lot of people take action to eliminate pollution and its danger, but someone does.  In fact, you could be that someone.  You can create your own local organization, have projects that pick up trash, do whatever you want!  You can create any project you want to do, and you'll know that you're helping the environment.  But if you're stumped and you don't have any ideas, then here's some ideas and ways that you can help the environment.
